The Don Quixote Girls™ in Paradise, Florida?
The Don Quixote Girls Karlene Conroy Mia Crews 9780615601410 Books
Mia Crews and Karlene Conroy set "The Don Quixote Girls" - centered around four good friends - in a richly imagined north Florida town called Paradise, where the potential for Eden-like happiness exists ... if only they can get their lives in order. We meet the women when they're young and just starting out. Hang on through the introductions - there's a fun and sprawling cast of characters - and meet them again 20 years later as they find themselves dealing with "sandwich generation" problems. They have cranky, demented or ill parents and in-laws, along with boomeranging adult children who bring more than average trouble home with them.
The women are entertaining: a Type-A widow who resists new love, an aging hippie whose free spirit returns in her wayward son, a smart but esteem-challenged wife with a mother-in-law from hell, and Dulcinea the diner diva, whose wicked ex-husband's return drives the plot as they have a showdown at an idyllic Georgia spa.
A warm story like this leads one to expect a happy ending, so the tension is easily bearable as this complicated subplot overtakes the "girls' week out." The real appeal of the story lies in its characterizations; it's an enjoyable tale of women of a certain age who draw on the strength of friendship to see them through life's troubles, allowing them to find peace and love.

The Don Quixote Girls Karlene Conroy Mia Crews 9780615601410 Books Reviews
Rule Number One Every reader has someone in this novel who they know and know well, and the authors have refined that hook to pull you into this novel. The story line features four women who must survive the emotional train wrecks of life sullen kids, divorces, relationships with big question marks--and oh yeah, some good guys come along when it really matters. Everything is here, and it all comes very fast (at least for a guy). So put down that murder mystery you're reading and plunge into life as we actually know it--that would be The Don Quixote Girls. My wife's got it now. Her comment with a raised eyebrow, "They've got my mother-in-law." Yeah...well...
I have to admit I have never read Don Quixote. My knowledge of classic literature is lacking, I know. When I met the authors of The Don Quixote Girls at a local book signing, I thought a modern day version of the story would be cute and funny. Plus I like to support Indie authors like myself. Selling books which are lovingly and passionately written is no easy task.
Plenty of love and care has gone into telling the story of The Don Quixote Girls. They are four women, best friends, living in a place thought to be the real Garden of Eden. Interestingly the Appalachicola-Chattahoochee River system in Northern Florida has four heads, is plentiful in gopher wood from which Noah built the ark and contains 28 of the 30 varieties of trees, all described in the Bible. These facts make it the perfect setting for a tale of friendship, suspense and romance.
The four friends live in the fictional town of Paradise which has capitalized on the Garden of Eden theme in order to attract tourists. Dulcinea's parents own the Don Quixote diner. Corky is married to the mayor. Harmony owns a new age store and since her husband's death, Leah runs the town's bank. They meet for breakfast once a week at the Don Quixote diner to keep up with the town's latest gossip. All the women are keeping secrets even from each other. But when Dulcie's secret shows up in the form of her ex-husband, nothing between friends will ever be the same.
The Don Quixote Girls is a well planned and action packed story, full of twists and turns. For me however, I found it too predictable. I'm often let down by stories that don't wrap up in a neat little bow. But The Don Quixote Girls tied up that bow just a tad bit tighter than even I could find enjoyable.
I really loved this book! It draws you into the life of a group of girls/women... from the funny to the frightening. It's a fantastic read and you will miss them when your finished.
This book is a good read. It's an interesting story with memorable characters. I enjoyed the story's setting and the quirky situations. Why not pursue your dreams?
I loved this book about four friends in a funny town called Paradise. It starts when they become friends at the Don Quixote diner, and gets moving twenty years later, when instead of life going smoothly, the bumps keep coming. Yet they remain there for one another through it all! Kids, aging parents and life. Kudos!
This book couldn't be more timely for all of us who are the in between generation. Dealing with aging parents and young adult children. It's so realistic that you feel like you're travelling with the four friends as they tell their stories. Funny, touching and tearful. The authors create a relatable story for all ages. I was immediately immersed in the lives of these delightful women. And as an extra bonus I discovered there really is a Garden of Eden in Florida. Don't miss this charming taste of the south.
Everything about this book was a pleasure. The cover, the characters, their adventures and how the author brought them to life. I love the uncomplicated way history, legend and fiction were woven together. I was immediately drawn in by the cover and the book did not disappoint. Easy to follow, charcters were complex but also relatable, the plot followed through and flowed magnificently. There were no glitches ot lags. This is hiw a book shoukd be wtitten. This author brought Paradise to us on paper in more ways than one. Definitely 5 stars!!
